11.22.2014: One of the BEST days of our lives happened at the CHICAGO'S CITY LIGHTS FESTIVAL PARADE. They had gone practically every year since they met. The day was just perfect. The weather was absolutely beautiful as it had been pretty cold in the previous years. Some of our favorite little girls (Amberlynn, Jiselle, Jasmine, and Jenna) decided to join us for their very first time.
Throughout the week, Roman had been acting very strange but Julie never really caught on which is very unusual because she's very analytical. He would make random stops to the store and his parents house, excuses after excuses.
Once we were at the parade, Roman asked to take a picture with Julie and her nieces. He was taking a really long time. He told them that he needed a better angle and asked Julie to switch sides. When Julie turned around, Roman was on his knees. Julie started crying and she said YES!!!
Amber, Jiselle, Jasmine, and Jenna had been sitting on top of a street light control box that was situated very high in order to see the parade. When they saw their Tito Roman on his knees, they said, "OMG! Get me down!" During this time, random people started cheering, clapping, hugging and high-fiving us. It was just like the movies....
Roman and Julie met while studying at the University of Illinois at Chicago. They were drawn together as friends at first. As Julie moved into the dorms, they grew closer and closer. Over time they became the best of friends initially.
During the middle of their freshman year, their frienship was tested in more ways than one in which it relied on each other's shoulder to cry on. They were inseparable from the start as friends, but afraid to take their relationship beyond friendship. They admired their beautiful friendship so much that they didn't want to lose it. But by sophmore year, they could no longer hide their feelings from one another. After one year of dating/courting, Roman finally asked Julie to be his Girlfriend on her 19th birthday, 08.06.2003.
Their relationship, so fresh and new, was tested when Julie received the news that her mother had a stroke. Julie made the ultimate decision to leave UIC and attend a university closer to home in order to be with her mother. Julie attended Lewis University, which was 45 minutes aways from UIC. Roman and Julie transitioned from seeing each other daily to once a week or sometimes even once every two weeks. Sacrifies were made left and right, but through it all they prevailed.
12.27.2003. After attending a family christmas party and meeting Roman's entire family for the first time as his girlfriend, Roman knew he was ready to tell Julie, he loved her. While on a date, Roman told Julie he had a gift for her. She started looking all over the car, in the glove compartment and in the backs seats, but nothing. Roman finally said, "my gift is my love. I just wanted to say I love you." Julie started crying and if you know Julie she is not much of cryer (well at least not in public) and said, "I love you, too."
07.03.2006. Julie finally decided to introduce Roman to her family at her nephew's christening. Julie was so nervous and scared as every single one of her family came to her table to check out Roman. She tried to hide her face behind a table napkin. There was nothing to fear, they loved him!... A few days later, Julie became really sick with a Kidney Infection. She was hospitalized for seven days with a fever that would just not go away. Roman who had just graduated college and was supposed to start his first grown up job that week. He opted to stay by Julie's side and never left her side. He didn't even want to go home to shower. From then, Julie knew she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him.
04.08.2011. Probably one of the the worst days of our lives. This was the day that Julie lost her mom. She was devastated and didn't know how she was going to handle the rest of her life. Roman was there by her side to offer his shoulder to cry on and a give her a big hug every time she needed one. Life would never be the same for Julie without her mom, but Roman was there for every step of the way to not make the pain go away but at least make the pain tolerable.
From the words of Julie Karen:
Roman Philip I. Recometa is definitely one of a kind. Talented and dedicated in everything he strives to accomplish. I just cannot describe how wonderful you are in only a few sentences. Being with such an amazing person is such a rewarding journey. Forever patient in any circumstances, righteous in all principles, and always charismatic, you never seem to disappoint me. From being so humble and yet you always seem to stand out in everything you aspire to do. Intelligent and honorable, always ambitous, everyday is such an exciting adventure with you. Definitely a "Mama's Boy," but reassuring knowing that the women in your life are always respected and loved dearly. A man who treats his women like a princess is proof that he has been born and raised in the arms of a queen. I admire your courage to take on anything at any moment. You have always had a wonderful drive to always succeed. Your heart is so admirable for always giving everything and anything to your loved ones.
Many of you know the basics of Roman (Philip) but many of you do not know he is excellent in everything he attempts. Athletic in many sports, lately a trend setter in fashion, musically talented both in playing and dancing, and did I mention he is an avid entrepeneur. I would say you're the entire package. But most importantly, throughout all these characteristics, he remains such a warm, righteous, and loving person to anyone who crosses his path.
He is such an inspiration in my life. He has contributed to so many wonderful attributes in my life, especially, putting a smile on my face daily. How lucky am I that I get to spend the rest of my life with you...
Love you to pieces!
From the Words of Roman (Philip):
Julie Karen de los Reyes is and always has been one of the most caring people I’ve ever met in my life. From the day I met her, it was very hard to believe how quickly our friendship accelerated. She has a gift of being extremely thoughtful and pays attention to all the small, but important details. A Leo in her own right, Julie is bold and is never afraid to take chances. I’ve seen her tackle school, jobs, or even just social events with precision planning and remarkable execution. Also, on the opposite end she is humble and grounded, being able to relate to anyone and just make them feel better in her presence. Some people think she is very feminine, but she can also surprise you by making positive impressions in any type of crowd. While she knows clothes and fashion, she would probably win in fantasy football or basketball.
When it comes to family values, she knows how to tie it all together. It’s easily noticed when you see a group of her nieces and nephews rush to hug her every time they see her. Raised by amazing parents, Julie had an adult mindset probably before she started driving. She always knew what was right, is never influenced by the wrong, and is always guiding others whenever they ask her for anything. When it comes to advice, Julie is always full of bright ideas. When it comes to being creative, sometimes I think she’s the real engineer between us.
No matter how near or far I am from her, our hearts are always connected. The journey we’ve had over the years really prove that she’s ready to take on the world with me, and that just makes our future endeavors that much more exciting.
Gloria Delos Reyes
My beautiful mother, I don't even know where to begin with. I think of you with every waking moment of my life and dream of you with every dream that I have. I have so many wonderful memories with you that I will always hold near and dear to my heart.
Four years ago you brought the greatest pain to my heart that I have ever experienced in my life. I'm forever wounded by the loss of you. I miss the way you used to hug me. I miss the way you used to kiss me, but most of all I miss the way you held me and my heart. Overall, I just miss you like crazy! I will always be forever grateful for the life you not only shared with me but others as well. It gives me great joy to continue to always reminisce about such a beautiful person inside and out.
I don't think I can tell you enough how grateful I am to be able to call you my mother. There is not enough time in this planet for me to describe all the wonderful things you have done for me. I may not be able to physically see you but that never stops me from continuously loving you. You are the one thing I could never stop loving. I don't know how I am surviving without you right now. Your love, warmth, and presence are the biggest pain in my heart because it's so dearly missed. I love you every day, hour, minute, and second of my life and I will always love you with every beat of my heart.
As I begin this new chapter of my life, I can't help but think of how much I miss you. I'm really excited about going through the wedding process but it saddens me on how different it would be if you were here. You would be the happiest person alive and not having you here to help me brings me to tears. I just wish you were here.
I love you so much!
